HOBBITS VIDEO

They're Taking The Hobbits To Isengard

As I'm sure you'll soon see if you click on one of the grey boxes to the left *, I am not a technical, scientific, nor otherwise intelligent otr trained photographer. By the way, all those statements apply also to my skills as a web designer, as you'll find out if you try clicking on rather too many of the grey boxes. I'll get round to finishing this site soon, honest....

Basically I just love creating pictures and try to do it as well as I can - that's about it really.

Here's a couple for you:-

I also like mucking about with different styles - so don't expect anythng else on here to look like those two...

So - I guess what I'm saying is that if you need help with choice of film stock, slave lighting set ups, correct aperture and shutter settings for given conditions, or any other information of any degree of "anorak-ness" (from absolutely none at all to full arctic-blizzard-proof snorkel parka with fur lined hood) best don't ask me, because I probably don't know either. Then we'll both get embarrassed, which will be a little awkward; if we agree to avoid the subject altogether we'll all be far happier.

I love using natural light, I only shoot digitally (though I used to say I wouldn't ever switch from film) and without getting too "arty" pressing the button is only the start of the process for me. My technique, such as it is, involves getting the best initial shot I can, then workng on it in until I've got it as close as I can to the image I've got in my head - though for some reason I hate cropping my pictures. Sometimes this takes hours, and sometimes just a few minutes - it's more often hours though. And to anyone who says "digital manipulation is just cheating..." I'll just say one thing... rubbish. Alright, two things - if you think say, Ansel Adams simply set up a camera, took a shot and then sent the film to Boots, then you (without meaning to cause offence) are an idiot.

But - with reference to the above, I don't actually technically know what I'm doing in Photoshop either, so don't ask me etc, etc...

By the way, I'm not being "cute" - and if you saw me you'd know that I could never pull off "cute" anyway. Anyone with any real knowledge of Photoshop would probably either roll around the floor laughing or explode with righteous indignation if they watched me working. The thing is I have very little interest in the correct way of doing things - I'm really only interested in the results - and as for the most part I'm not baking soufflés, nothing's that crtical. As long as I remember to take the lens cap off, I'll get there in the end, more or less.....

On the other hand, if I'm shooting at parties I generally just point and press, and they still seem to work - most of the time....

By the way, should you be looking for a brilliant photographer who does know all the technical stuff, use Morgan White - http://www.morganwhitephotography.co.uk. Great bloke too.....

Anyway, that's undoubtedly far more than you needed to know, so I'll shut up now.

Apart from this one other thing - as I keep getting asked about it, I'll tell you. This website is called "Filthy Rags" because that's the name of the T Shirt range I am constantly working on, and as soon as I get enough designs finished, I'll put them up for sale. Mind you I have been saying that since about March '04, so don't hold your breath. If you need a shirt urgently try here or here.... my current favourites and unsafe for work in places.

If I haven't put you off, and you want to contact me, my phone number and email details are below.

Thanks for visiting, and for readiing this far.

All the very best
